How well am recalling when first moving to Houston from Ft. Worth. Was pulling a trailer with my older Cadillac, seeking employment in the new growing city during 1963. Katy, Texas, where my cousins lived was almost in the wilderness, and could not believe they settled there. I chose to live in the downtown area. Houston House was under construction, and when it was finished, moved in where lived for a long time.
Many changes developed , witnessed and was very interesting to see this city grow.
The first exciting event was the opening of the Astrodome. It was mind boggling. A friend and me fought the traffic at the opening. Not posistive, though believe Judy Garland was the star performer. Recall that the accoustics were very bad at that time. What also is remembered a boxing match. In my old age am forgetting who were staged, Casious Clay? though do recall that when we settled in the box seats we had, IMMEDIATELY the fight was over with a knockout, ha. True. No one was happy about that.
The Jones Hall opening was a wonderful event, never to be forgotten. We were inside looking out, which was a huge change for me personally. Met a movie star then, who was introduced to. Gene Tierney
Secured a position at Vinson & Elkins, where was employed for eight years. Then secured a Paralegal Certificate and moved on until retirement in l984.
Is not this interesting, ha. Oh well, Wait until you reach the age of 83 years. We are important to ourselves only, and cherish our memories.
